01 / Make the list before the shopping trip.
Walk through the belongings you plan to move. Separate the jobs: contain the load, protect individual items, keep contents from moving unnecessarily, identify the destination and handle anything that needs a different plan. A box or bin does the first job; it does not automatically do the others.
Check what you already have before buying more. Reused materials need to be clean, dry and suitable for the item. Do not assume every spare towel, old box or piece of wrapping is appropriate for something fragile. Follow the item’s care instructions where they apply.
This guide is a materials checklist, not a box-count estimate. Use the quantity worksheet for your Small/Large mix and the interactive moving checklists for reminders throughout the move.
02 / Choose protection for the item.
Packing paper, suitable cushioning and separators serve different purposes. Think about the item’s surface, shape and vulnerability, then choose protection that fits those needs. A sturdy reusable bin is still a container: it does not make an unprotected glass, screen or delicate finish ready to travel.
Keep protective materials with the items that need them instead of treating one roll or packet as a universal solution. Allow room for protection in your box estimate. Dense items may need smaller, manageable loads rather than a larger container filled to the top. The heavy-item guide covers that packing decision in more detail.
For unusually valuable, delicate or awkward items, use their manufacturer’s packing instructions or get appropriate specialist guidance. Do not force something into a standard moving bin because the rest of the room fits there.
03 / Separate sealing from labeling.
If you are using cardboard, check the box design and condition before deciding which assembly or sealing materials it needs. Keep the appropriate tape and a cutting tool together. For rental bins, follow the supplied instructions rather than assuming cardboard-box habits apply to their lids and surfaces.
Use the removable labels supplied or approved for Frogbox bins, and confirm what will be provided before relying on it. Do not write directly on rental equipment or assume any adhesive is suitable. Your labels need to identify the destination without hiding ownership marks or becoming difficult to remove.
A marker, an agreed naming system and a simple inventory can be more useful than elaborate labels. For the actual room-and-contents format, read Labels that work. Keep private details off labels that other people can see.
04 / Keep one small packing station.
Put the supplies you are actively using in one accessible place: suitable protection, approved labels, a marker, the relevant tape if needed, and a safe place for cutting tools. Keep tools out of children’s reach and away from the loose wrapping where they can be lost. A small, clear work area is easier to reset than a whole room of materials.
Keep the packing station separate from your first-night essentials. The charger and medicine you need today should not travel in the same general pile as tomorrow’s wrapping supplies. Use the first-night guide to decide what stays reachable.
As you finish a packing area, note what you used and what remains. That gives you a better basis for the next supplies purchase than buying a second full kit because the first one disappeared into the move.
05 / Some moving jobs are not box jobs.
Furniture protection, moving equipment, vehicle arrangements and help with lifting belong on their own list. Do not count them as included simply because you have ordered moving boxes. Confirm equipment availability and responsibilities with the provider you are actually using.
Frogbox’s current bookable catalog is Large and Small bins. Confirm any approved labels that will be supplied and plan other packing materials separately. You pack and move your belongings. A rental is not a promise of moving labor, furniture wrapping or every accessory shown in a general moving-supplies checklist. Review the current Frogbox FAQ and your order details before planning around an extra.
For an apartment or managed property, match your supplies and equipment plan to the real route and building arrangements. Keep shared exits clear and use the apartment-move guide for access questions—not a guess based on the building’s address.
06 / Use this check before buying.
A supplies list with a purpose
- What needs protecting?List the fragile, easily marked and awkward items separately.
- What suitable materials do you already own?Check condition and cleanliness before reusing them.
- What needs sealing or labeling?Match the materials to the actual container and rental instructions.
- What is confirmed as supplied?Write down only what the order or provider confirms—not what you assume is included.
- What is outside the box rental?Plan specialist materials, equipment, transport and help separately.
Choose your supplies alongside your bin mix, then plan when you will need both. The box-arrival timeline helps connect packing sessions with access, moving day and pickup.
PLAN YOUR REUSABLE BIN RENTAL07 / Quick answers.
Does renting reusable bins remove the need for packing materials?
No. The bin contains the load; individual belongings may still need suitable wrapping, cushioning or separators. Choose protection for the item and follow its care instructions.
Are labels, tape and cushioning automatically included with Frogbox?
Do not assume they are. Check the current order details and supplied equipment instructions. Use labels supplied or approved for the bins rather than treating a general shopping checklist as an included-accessories list.
Should I buy a standard moving-supplies kit?
Compare its contents with your own packing jobs and materials you already have. A kit can include things you do not need and still leave out protection required for a particular item.
