01 / Start with belongings, not bedrooms.
There is no single reliable box count for every apartment or house. A room count cannot show the book collection, kitchen cupboards, packed-away hobby supplies or the closet you still need to sort. Start with an inventory of what will actually move, then separate a first estimate from a confirmed order.
This guide helps you estimate quantities and a Small/Large mix. For the order in which to pack, use the room-by-room packing plan. The two jobs are different: deciding how many containers you may need is not the same as deciding what to pack first.
02 / Give every packing area a line.
Walk through each room and open the cupboards. List shelves, drawers, linen storage and the small belongings on display. Separate items you will not move before estimating. Keep furniture, appliances and awkward items on a separate list so they are not quietly counted as belongings that will fit in ordinary moving boxes.
Your moving-box worksheet
Copy these headings onto paper or a document. Use one row per cupboard, shelf group or packing area.
- Area and contentsExample: bookcase, daily kitchenware, spare linens.
- Container choiceSmall, Large, another suitable container, or separate handling.
- Evidence for the estimateWhat you counted, measured or test-packed—not just a bedroom label.
- Estimated quantity and confidenceRecord the count and mark anything not yet checked.
- Still in daily use or not sorted?Keep a final-pack note so these belongings are not forgotten.
Keep first-night and journey essentials separate. They still need a plan, but they should not disappear into the general packing estimate. The first-night guide helps identify what should stay within reach.
03 / Test a representative load when you can.
If you have access to the same container model you intend to use, try one representative shelf or cupboard with the protective materials the contents need. Note how much fits comfortably, how manageable the packed load is, and what remains. Repeat for a different category rather than applying the book estimate to bedding.
Use that observation to estimate similar areas. For example, if one of your book shelves takes two manageable Small-bin loads, three genuinely similar shelves would suggest six Small loads. That is an illustration of the method—not a recommended number for your home. Shelves with different books or packing needs can change the result.
If you cannot test the intended container, mark the estimate as provisional. Product measurements can help you plan, but volume alone cannot determine an exact item count. Do not use an unrelated cardboard box as an exact substitute for a Frogbox bin, or assume a quoted litre capacity accounts for wrapping and empty spaces.
04 / Count Small and Large separately.
Small bins can help divide dense belongings such as books and kitchen items into manageable loads. Large bins give lighter, roomier belongings such as clothes and linens more space. The right split depends on your possessions and handling needs, not a fixed percentage for every household.
Frogbox Small is listed at 46 litres and 21 × 15 × 9 inches. Large is listed at 94 litres and 24 × 20 × 12 inches. Do not turn those figures into a guaranteed two-for-one packing conversion or vehicle-fit claim. Check the real containers and belongings; listed dimensions are not guaranteed usable interior clearance.
Total the estimated Small loads and Large loads in separate columns. Keep fragile and awkward belongings visible in the notes. A lid closing does not by itself establish that a load is safe or suitable. Follow the supplied equipment instructions and arrange suitable handling help for your circumstances.
05 / Review what your first count missed.
Look again at the bathroom, cleaning cupboard, pantry, desk drawers and the belongings still in daily use. A rough count often becomes more useful when you finish the decisions, rather than when you add an arbitrary number of extra boxes. If an area is still unsorted, label that uncertainty instead of disguising it as a precise total.
Plan a contingency appropriate to the uncertain areas and the options actually available from your supplier. This guide does not prescribe a universal spare-box percentage or promise that additional Frogbox bins will be available after an order is placed. Review the booking terms and contact the published help channel before relying on an order change.
Count the unpacking time too. A rental needs time before the move to pack and time afterward to empty the bins for the agreed pickup. An apartment elevator reservation, key handover and bin rental are separate arrangements; make sure the dates work together.
06 / Turn your estimate into an order.
- Total your planned mix. Keep the Small and Large counts, uncertain areas and special handling notes together.
- Check the dates and both addresses. Each Frogbox delivery and pickup address must separately meet the 75-road-mile service limit from Hockley.
- Review the actual quote. Rental duration, transport, extra distance, access and tax can affect the total.
- Confirm what is included. Do not assume cushioning, moving labor, a future extension or a last-minute quantity change is included.

BUILD YOUR SMALL + LARGE MIX07 / Quick answers.
How many boxes do I need for a two-bedroom home?
Bedroom count alone is not enough to give a dependable total. Inventory the belongings that will move, separate dense and light loads, and test representative areas when possible.
Can I convert cardboard-box counts directly into Frogbox bins?
Not reliably without checking the actual sizes, contents and packing needs. Different container shapes and protective materials affect what fits; published litres are not an exact conversion rule.
Can I change my bin quantity later?
Do not assume a change is available or already arranged. Review the booking terms and contact Frogbox through the published help channel before relying on extra bins or changed dates.
Once you have a provisional bin mix, make a separate packing-supplies list. Protection and labels solve different jobs from the container count. Then use the box-arrival timeline to check that your packing and unpacking windows fit the dates.
